A life time love for licorice

Written by ken hohstadt. Posted in product review, Uncategorized

I fancy myself as a bit of a licorice connoisseur. As a child every chance to pick up a red vine from a local store, well let’s just say I ate my share. I think one of my favorite memories was always my birthday. Mom would always get me the large tub of red licorice causing a sugar high for a good week or so.  Well at some point I was introduced to black licorice with all its amazing goodness. What gives this amazing candy its great taste is the anise root. Did you know there is two spelling for this confection. Licorice for use westerners but most country’s spell it Liquorice.  In fact some of the best black licorice I have had comes from the Dutch. They make it with a salty taste and a lot of it is made to be hard. Its very interesting to try. ven One piece of Venco Licorice and you will see what I mean.  These hard little cats are made in Holland and really are amazing. My first piece I was trying to chew and quickly realized one piece was a challenge to eat. They are hard and yet soft as well with a hint of a salt and a great flavor.  I know that doesn’t make much sense but if you are a black licorice fan do yourself a favor and pick up a bag. We sell that at as well as many other more traditional.

Remember the old fashioned licorice wheels? Yes we have them. The Haribo company makes these great wheels and they are much softer then the Dutch’s  black cats. As time goes on I will add more info about interesting types of licorice to try.
